Hereford 4, Perry Hall Varsity Softball 1

From Coach Radcliffe:

Saturday, the Lady Gators played a stellar game, but came up a little short in a 4-1 loss to number 15 Hereford.  Last year, the Bulls stomped Perry Hall 9-0 as a result of many walks and errors.  This time the defense came up big to keep the game close, as left fielder Lauren Stumme, third baseman Kelli Streett, first baseman Abby Hollen and pitcher Miranda Lobus all made very nice plays to help snuff out Bull rallies.  Second baseman Emily Streett made an outstanding web-gem diving play on a hot smash up the middle to get a key out at second base.  However, walks were the undoing once again as they directly led to 3 of the 4 Hereford runs.  Perry Hall nearly took the lead in the fourth, as Brooke Powers beat out an infield hit.  Brittany Kingery smashed a deep fly to center that easily would’ve gone over the hill for a homer, but the center fielder hauled it in with a great grab.  The Gators trailed just 2-0 in the fifth, when Hollen reached on an error.  Emily Street roped a deep fly ball to left to score Hollen, but that was the Gators’ last gasp.  The Gators host Aberdeen on Thursday.

JV Softball Defeats Hereford

The Perry Hall JV softball team defeated Hereford Saturday at the Third Annual “Strike Out ****** Cancer” game.  Freshman Ally Kordon pitched well in the windy, frigid conditions allowing only 2 walks while striking out 3. Koron helped her team out offensively with 3 hits, too.  The offensive leader for the lady gators was sophomore Casey Turner who went 4 for 4. She had a 2 run homerun in the first inning and added 2 more triples and a single on the day.

Varsity Softball Recap

The Lady Gators garnered their second mercy-rule win in two days, knocking off the Edgewood Rams, 14-0.  Abby Hollen overmatched the Ram hitters, as she tossed a one-hit shutout in her first career Gator start, striking out seven in the process.  After a scoreless first, Miranda Lobus and Lauren Stumme sandwiched singles around a walk from Hollen.  Kelli Streett drew an RBI walk, and Caroline Wille plated the second run with a deep sacrifice fly to left for a 2-0 lead.  Perry Hall then took advantage of seven walks and three Ram errors to bust it open with a 12 run third inning.  Stumme had the big hit of the inning, a 2 run double to center.  Lindsey Dudley and Brittany Kingery also added RBI singles as the Gators brought 18 hitters to the plate.

Varsity Softball: Perry Hall 11 Catonsville 1

From Coach Radcliffe:

The Perry Hall Gators avenged a close loss from last year, blasting the Catonsville Comets 11-1 in their home opener.  Miranda Lobus had a dominant game with three hits:  a single, a line drive double to right, and a booming triple deep to left.  She drove in four runs.  In the circle, Lobus escaped a bases-loaded no out jam in the first with nice defensive plays from left fielder Lauren Stumme and shortstop Lindsay Dudley, then settled down to throw a no-hit shutout the rest of the way.  The top 3 girls in the lineup had a field day, scoring nine times between them.  Hannah Lewis had 3 hits, scoring 3 times, Brooke Powers had 2 hits and a walk while scoring all 4 times she batted, and Brittany Kingery scored both times she reached base.  Emily Streett added a huge 2-run pinch hit double as the Gators broke open the game for good in the fourth.  The Lady Gators return to action Thursday when they host Edgewood at 3:45.
